King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima embarked today on a three-day-visit to Germany.
For today’s program, which included a walk through vineyards in the Mosel region, a Rhine River cruise from Oberwesel to Boppard, and a meeting at the state chancellery in Mainz, Queen Máxima repeated her charcoal grey velvet felt picture hat with sideswept brim, trimmed with a wide hatband in the same colour.

While we’ve not seen this hat in the past year and a half (interesting, it was last worn on a previous trip to Germany), it remains a great hat for her. The scale, size and shape are all great and today’s hairstyle, with a sidesweep and chignon visible beneath the brim, helped break up the grey colour block around Máxima’s face from the hat and dress bodice. I’m not all that fond of the dress but this was absolutely the right hat to pair with it and the pieces work well together

While the dress is not my favorite, it definitely ranks high when compared to many of the other outfits she’s worn with this hat. It’s great to see a bit more color this time, as Máxima usually chooses such drab-colored outfits, which does this hat a disservice. Hope to see this hat again soon, but with something in cobalt blue, teal, or a dark crimson.
I do like the colour and position of the hat. Melds so well with the top of the dress.
