York Royal Wedding: Phillips and Armstrong-Jones Families

We continue our look at the hats at today’s wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank with those worn by members of the Phillips family. Princess Anne repeated her emerald green straw blocked beret base hat trimmed with wide bow in the same fabric as her suit. While the hat base isn’t as refined as it could be, the colour is absolutely stellar on Anne.

Autumn Phillips topped her emerald floral dress with a straw button percher hat trimmed with large straw bow, curling green quills, green open weave net veil and small, trimmed feathers in black, pink and green.

Zara Tindall wore a grey silk covered button percher trimmed with a lavish spray of silver roses, grey feathers and leaves. The hat is a go-to shape and style for Zara- it works beautifully on her and made a great compliment to her bright blue coat.

There are extremely limited photos available of the Armstrong-Jones family- most visible is the wide cartwheel brimmed picture hat in pale pink felt worn by Lady Sarah Chatto. Sarah favours classic shapes such as this and while she often leans to neutral colours, this pink is so lovely on her. The Countess of Snowdon topped her bohemian printed dress with a delicate gold headpiece. It’s an unexpected pairing of dress and headpiece and I wish we had a better view.

Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones wore a in a navy button percher with veil printed with large dots. It’s a youthful hat that suits her well- the pompoms on the veil are charming!

  1. The hats of Lady Sarah Chatto and the Countess of Snowden might be my favourites of the whole wedding. Their hats, and indeed their entire outfits, were unique, interesting and flattering. Yet they couldn’t be more different from each other!

  2. Princess Anne – I love this green outfit of hers and it’s good to see it again.

Autumn has another winner. She’s really been doing great with her hats and outfits the past couple of years.

For both of these it does help that this shade of green is my favorite colour. I was very happy to see it on many wedding guests.

  3. Autumn Phillips looked exceptional today. Her dress is exquisite and her hat was gorgeous with all the details. She has quickly become one of my hat favorites.

Zara Tindall looked lovely (as always).

The hat style for Lady Sarah Chatto is a winner. Similar to the style she wore to Prince Harry’s wedding , it’s gorgeous on her.

  4. If there was ever a time for Anne to wear this hat and outfit, this was it! Emerald was certainly the color of this wedding, and this color is wonderful for Anne. There is still something a bit off for me about the combination of her hairstyle and the bow details of the hat, but a minor complaint.

Autumn is still on a roll and won’t stop killing it with her hat game! Definitely another favorite of the day that I would love to see repeated again.

Zara’s overall look is nothing new, but the details of the floral and feather trim on this cocktail hat make it stand out; pairing it with the dove grey shoes and contrasting it against the bright blue dress was also a fantastic choice.

It’s a shame there aren’t better photos at the moments of the Snowdons and Chattos, but hopefully that will be rectified soon. Two British royal weddings in one year, and they both bring new hats for Lady Sarah! The hat gods have blessed us. The lavender color is lovely for her, and as this one looks to be a velour felt, I would love to see it return at Christmas.

Margarita’s cocktail hat suits her, but it doesn’t look to stand out at this point. Serena’s headpiece unfortunately seems to blend in colorwise with her hair; of course, with her very patterned dress, a solid colored headpiece would make a good choice, and full judgment is on hold for this one until better photos emerge.

  5. The Princess Royal looks great in this ensemble, I just wish she changed her accessories to navy or even burgundy. This green is so pretty on Autumn! I think she looked fabulous. She very rarely misses. Zara is doing her usual, but if it’s not broken don’t fix it. I like that she went with grey instead of matching her hat to her coat. Like Zara, Sarah Chatto is firmly in her wheelhouse, though the color makes it a surprise. I was totally expecting to see her in navy or black&white. I like the little bit I can see of Serena. I think the dress may be a repeat from Ascot? Margarita is lovely & age appropriate.
