King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony at Oslo City Town Hall yesterday. For this event, Queen Sonja repeated her black brimless hat with pyramid shaped crown trimmed with sequins. The piece is certainly festive paired with her aubergine velvet jacket.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit topped her brown tweed and cream colour blocked coat with her winter white felt pillbox hat, worn on the back of her head in the style of a calot.

This is always a glittering event- what do you think of these two repeated royal hats?

Headphones (for translation, presumably) would likely have an effect on the sort of hat one could wear for this event, although Queen Sonja doesn’t appear to be using hers.
I always look forward to seeing Mette-Marit’s uniquely polished and elegant Nobel style which she has made her own – a small hat or natty headpiece worn way back, over a slick updo — so I’m disappointed to see the lowkey styling of this familiar hat, with its less exciting position (worn at a lesser angle), and hair worn down. When combined with the white yoke and the practical brown fabric and schoolgirl pleats of the dress, this look reminds me of an old-style nursing matron’s uniform, or nun’s habit https://www.gettyimages.fi/detail/news-photo/the-british-actress-audrey-hepburn-acting-in-the-film-the-news-photo/141567658. The overall effect is tidy and no-nonsense — but I would have loved to see M-M in something less ascetic.
I much prefer the pizzazz of Sonya’s sequins and velvet. Her hat (and her jacket) are fabulous, so I’m very happy that they’re still in use!
Sonja certainly has repeated this hat and this outfit multiple times at this ceremony (although it seems like the first time pairing this hat and outfit, however). While I’m all for mixing and matching hats and outfits, I think it’s time to bring something new into the rotation, especially for this high profile event.
It’s great to see Mette-Marit back in a hat, and style her hair quite differently compared to usual with this pillbox. While the hat isn’t exciting and her ensemble is pretty devoid of color, but I applaud this for something new!
I like that the dress Mette Marit wore with her hat this time has some contrast in it. Both her and Sonja certainly get a lot of bang out of their bucks! Sonja’s hat is unique. I love the velvet jacket!
