On Saturday, Princess Beatrix took part in celebrating 70th anniversary of the Dutch Cancer Society Dutch Cancer Society with a visit to the Royal Dutch Mint to to see a special coin stamped to commemorate this milestone come off the press. For this event, she repeated a denim blue straw hat with domed crown and high, straight sided double bumper brim wrapped in a slightly slanted wide stripe of straw. The design is completed with two pointed ribbon tails curling off the back.
The colour is so lovely on Beatrix and while I could do with a trim on those ribbon tails off the back, that slanting stripe of straw around the outside of the hat gives a unique take on shape that has become a very familiar one for her

It’s been a while since we saw this hat- what are your thoughts?

Lovely pictures of Princess Beatrix and I really like this hat. The whole outfit and specially the blue of the hat makes her blue eyes just “pop”.
Wow, Beatrix looks fantastic in these photos; this cerulean color really suits her! It’s a shame we apparently haven’t seen more of this hat.
I love the color and design, but it just looks too big for her. I realize they probably didn’t want her to have “hat hair” afterwards, but still…
The straw has almost certainly been hand dyed by Suzanne Moulijn, to harmonize with the colour of the dress material.
The large, cake box shaped design is a familiar one Princess Beatrix has favoured for many years. Her hats (or at least those hats made for her by Mrs. Moulijn) have a double crown. The inner crown is large and round, like a salad bowl turned upside down. It has the exact shape of P. Beatrix’ hairdo. A generous dose of hairspray (her hair has sometimes been described by the press as “sculpted in marble”) achieves to preserve her looks. I don’t think she has ever been seen with “hat hair”.
