Dutch Queen Opens Eco Facility

Queen Máxima was in Beltrum today to officially open the Netherlands’ first green mineral plant which processes natural materials into organic fertilizer, soil conditioner and clean water. For this engagement, she repeated her with her large, natural straw picture hat with upswept brim.

This workhorse hat is Máxima’s most worn piece of millinery (paired with eight different looks so far, including this textured dress) and it’s no surprise- it’s her signature shape in a neutral colour that goes with almost everything. The natural tones of this ensemble feel like a great pairing for today’s particular opening and while it’s not the vibrant tones we associate (and love!) on her, it’s a layered and polished neutral look.

  1. Although I like this hat better when worn with some of her other outfits, this look is still very elegant and pleasing, and the dress is one of my favourites, so it’s nice to see it repeated.
I can see why the huge pearl earrings were chosen to go with the fabulous pearl brooch, but I dont like the “dumb-bell” design of these particular drop earrings, so my vote goes to the previous iteration of this ensemble, where the earrings were different.

  2. Since HatQueen asked whether anyone has noticed anything new, that bow seems odd. It’s as though they were going for an origami look, but it didn’t come out right. Off to check out the other slice hats…

  3. This dress is not my favorite look for the hat — too much beige from head to toe — but it’s always great to see the hat again, and I agree with Jake that the jewelry is wonderful. My favorite with this hat is the aqua printed dress worn on 8/30/14 — I would love to see today’s dress with a hat and accessories with some color.

Incidentally, we were previously discussing how many times Queen Elizabeth might wear some of her hats, and I believe it was in a Philip Somerville interview where he said she wore them about 10 times. This is the 11th time for this hat, so it will be interesting to see how many more times it appears.

      • Queen Max looks happy and lovely. Her personality and wonderful smile must be a delight for everyone.

Hat Queen, two hats immediately came to mind pertaining to 10 or more wears. As it turns out, one of them has only worn about 6 times, it just seems like more for some reason, possibly because it is not everyone’s favorite. I’ll share the ten-time hat if and when the appropriate post appears. I noticed when looking this hat up, that back in August of 2014, you started a new discussion called “Track a Hat,” which followed the life of a hat. It featured a wonderful medium blue/red trimmed hat by the world’s leading Royal hat wearer. This was before I became acquainted with Royal Hats, and do not recall seeing this feature since. I think it’s a great idea for quiet hat day. Here it is, 5 years later, in case it has been forgotten, but I rather doubt that could happen with you.

  4. Nothing new to add, except that it’s always wonderful to see this hat as it frames Máxima’s face so beautifully. And the jewelry this time is also fantastic!
