to Easter Sunday April 9, 1939 enjoyed in San Francisco by Crown Prince Frederick and Crown Princess Ingrid of Denmark, as were their titles at the time. I find it fascinating how Princess Ingrid’s hat is so similar to the ‘slice’ brims we often see now and how the unfinished, rough edge makes it feel modern enough to be easily worn today.

Very chic couple! I love the hat so much! Happy Easter everyone!
Dear Royal Hatters, This morning I put on my bright florals, my purple shoes, and as a finishing touch, my gigantic mauve Madagascar Hat a la Princess Caroline of Monaco. Put on a hat and spread some physically distant cheer!
Elegant couple! It’s so true that the hat could be worn today. But I’m so intrigued by the coast — is it really two-toned, or is Ingrid just partly shadowed?

I think the shadows are playing optical tricks on us today. Yes, it would be nice to see the ensemble in color, but it is not to be!
The princess wore this same dress and coat when she traveled to America in May of 1939, but with a different hat. Happy Easter, everyone. Mrs. Jimbo wore an Easter bonnet this morning, even though the church doors were locked! She served me my birthday coffee in a raspberry straw hat and bath robe! I’m still laughing, just thinking of it!

Jimbo, I hope Mrs. Jimbo’s hat and robe were appropriately contrasting — you know how much some of our fellow blog participants dislike outfits that are too matchy!
