Hat From the Past

Royal Hats52 years to this day in 1968 and a pair of hats worn by a royal bride. Sonja Haraldsen donned a voluminous banded turban-tam hybrid to greet guests arriving at Fornebu airport for her wedding the next day to Crown Prince Harald (who looks very handsome in a jaunty trilby).

For a public reception later that day, her textured halo brimmed hat is the height of late 1960s chic.

We’ll look at the wedding of these two lovebirds next week.

  1. The aptly-put comment about one of the hats resembling a deflating basketball aside, Sonja wears this style of hat very well. And besides, both Sonja and CP Harold are so individually and collectively good looking !
Such a romantic story. Will look forward to the post on their wedding!

  2. I prefer the halo to the turban hybrid, but I’ll take either of these over the one from a year earlier as posted by mcncln for the Striped Hats discussion Embed from Getty Images

If Sonja was having any bridal jitters, they don’t show in these! And Harald looks dashing in his trilby. Looking forward to the wedding post!

  3. Ooh they’re a lot aren’t they! I love the styling with the shift dresses, but while the second one is a lovely halo, the first looks rather like a deflating basketball…
