So who was the milliner that made the fabulous hats for the show?
Gosh! What a height her hat must have reached! I imagine that these Royal Ladies were surrounded by scores of assistants and advisers. Wishing I could have been one!
So dramatic and fabulous, I love it! And thanks for the “Atlantic Crossing” recommendation everyone; I just watched the first episode and I’m hooked.
Fabulous hat, and what an elegant couple!
We’ve only watched one episode so far, but like many others, I’m finding it a fascinating perspective on the War. Looking forward to the rest of the show.
Awesome hat! She wore the same dress with a different hat in Washington DC when receiving a gift from the Girls Scouts, June 30, 1939.

That’s amazing. It’s so glamorous and with such Hollywood styling. She was quite a fascinating woman, and clearly played a very important role on the war. Thank you for sharing this fabulous hat.
Watching Atlantic Crossing here via PBS streaming on ROKU…..so far it is very good. Interesting to see the Norwegian (and Swedish) courts of the time, and learn some lesser known history — as well as seeing King Harald and Princesses Astrid and Ragnhild portrayed as children. Not to mention hats and tiaras.
Since most contemporary stories involving royalty in this time period tend to focus on the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and the abdication, it is interesting to see a different window into the era.
Well stated MrFitzroy! It is nice to see a different perspective. I also like that they speak Norwegian and Swedish and have subtitles. Very true to life!
What an amazingly large hat! Does anyone know what color it was?
(When I saw the description for the “Atlantic Crossing” series, I was hoping that we might see a Hat from the Past for Princess Martha, so thanks, HatQueen! Shanon, we usually record episodes of continued series and watch 3 or 4 at at time, but yes, we will watch it when we have a few more saved up.)
Smart idea Matthew. I’m certain you will enjoy it when you can binge watch.
That is a very glamorous hat. I find Princess Martha to be a very compelling person.
Anyone else watching PBS’s “Atlantic Crossing” featuring Princess Martha? I recommend it thus far.
Love that show!
I watched it for the first time last night. It’s very good and yes- it did inspire my search for a ‘Hat From The Past’ this morning!
Wonderful! I’m all for more hats/information on Princess Martha, Princess Marina of Greece, Queen Astrid of Belgium and other Royals from other countries. They are fascinating women and did a lot for their respective countries before/during and after the war. I don’t expect a Wiki page from you, but these Hats From the Past are lovely!
P.S. In the first episode her white hat and ensemble were glorious. If that was indeed her true style, she was incredibly chic.
That makes Maxima’s big hats look undersized!
