Dutch Queen Celebrates Film Museum

Queen Máxima visited the EYE Film Museum in Amsterdam yesterday to mark its 75th anniversary.

For this event, she repeated her gold straw picture hat with sharply diagonally raised slice brim on one side.

Its the first time Máxima has paired this hat with this gold floral and lace dress and the two pieces compliment well. While it’s a head-to-toe look in the same hue, the smooth lines of the hat provide lovely contrast to the more textural dress. I particularly love the whimsical note provided by the earrings (note their reversed purple and topaz stones!).

  1. Gorgeous from a distance, but the dress is perhaps a little busy close to. Still, that can be a sensible sartorial choice for those making public appearances. I don’t have a problem with the repeated shade, though if the dress was monochrome it might have been a bit much.

  2. Gold is my less liked colour and puts me at a disadvantage here
To me that is her uniform but in gold.
Even so , in person I think the outfit would be nice.

  3. It’s hard to be objective since I don’t especially care for the dress. It is indeed a lot of gold, but it’s a color that Max wears well. But haven’t we seen this dress with another hat? Perhaps we have another This or That post to look forward to.

  4. This is a great pairing. Yes it’s a lot of one colour, ( that never stops Máx!) but the texture and colours in the dress break it up. When she mixes her pieces well she really can get it so right (most of the time…!)

  5. I don’t know, there’s so much gold . Hat, dress, shoes, bag, gloves, shawl and she’s suntanned – everything is gold. I like the hat but there’s just no contrast to make the hat sing and not even the earrings provide any contrast.

  6. Lack of brim bias blocking aside (thanks Wies! 😉 ), I think this is the hat’s best outing and I love pairing it with this dress. It’s a lot of goldenrod for sure, but with the different colors in the dress pattern and the texture differences throughout the ensemble, it all works very well. Brava!
