Day 3 of Holyrood Week

Yesterday, Queen Elizabeth had a busy day, visiting Skypark and the Children’s Wood Project in Glasgow accompanied by Princess Anne.

For these visits, she debuted a wonderful new royal blue hat. Covered in the same fabric as her coat, the hat’s crown is slightly elevated on one side with a gently domed top, a line echoed by two folded, layered hatbands also raised on one side. The hat is trimmed with beautiful white and blue feather flowers, nestled on one side of the hat’s cartwheel brim, which is shortened around the back.

It’s magnificent! The colour, the scale, the wider-than-usual brim (around the front and sides!), the lift provide by raising the crown slightly on one side- all these things are so very good. And the flowers. Wow! They give a painterly, beautifully contrasting element that makes the design feel very modern. I adore the different shades of blue and how, from some angles, the flowers look like butterflies!

  1. Royal blue is a perfect color on HM, but her smile says it all! This is my favorite Scotland hat so far, but I still LOVE yesterday’s mulberry straw number.

  2. I absolutely adore this hat. For me by far the best outing this week. It‘s very Princess Alexandra-ish. Brava!!!

    • For awhile I wondered whether the white with purplish blue with gray or green dress from day 3 in Scotland was the same purplish blue with gray or green dress worn in 2019 with the bright blue sinamay hat you referenced. I think the dresses actually are different, but they’re dangerously similar; and the 2019 dress in particular doesn’t really seem to coordinate particularly well with the 2019 hat.

  3. This colour suits her so well; those flowers are beautifully made and the shape and scale are spot on. I think the coat could do with a bit more interest, but on the whole another really good Parvin/RTM combo – as ever.

  4. It’s stunning!

The slight dome on the crown and longer brim work so well. The cost is cut so well, shows off the glorious brooch, and of course, the color is perfect.

I believe this is the second RTM and SP hat/ coat combination we’ve seen recently, which is a subtle but refreshing change.

    HM looks gorgeous!
