King Harald, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon attended the opening of Norwegian parliament yesterday in Oslo.
Queen Sonja repeated a black cloche hat with wide hatband and flat side bow.

I love a black and white dress code but am not sure the shape of a cloche crown suits Queen Sonja best. What do you think?

I agree with HQ & the other contributions: the hat’s too spherical (too high and round) which makes it too informal for this occasion.
The crown is a bit tall and gives this hat more of a bowler feel than a cloche. Also, Sonja’s outfit does feel slightly informal to me when compared to the dress uniforms and mantles worn by Harald and Haakon, so I think a fancier hat would improve on that.
I don’t like this hat – it looks like a homburg that’s had its crown pushed out. Not really a fan of the jacket with contrasting lower section either. Sorry Sonja, not one of your best looks for me.
Her graphic suit is fabulous, but yes agree the hat is a smidge too tall for the lovely Sonja.
I am imagining the hat with the top dome excised to the hat band. I think that would look more elegant and better fit this solemn occasion. (Of course, with an appropriate filling of the opening!) I think this would also highlight the angle of the brim better. And, yes, lesleyc, a slighter larger brim too.
But I’m no designer…so who knows?
I don’t think it’s one of her best hats either. It looks a little too tall and the brim is too small making the overall look unbalanced.
