This style may look odd now, but the whole look it does show a shift in her style. The suit is streamlined with clean lines and a straight skirt; a shift from the new look she wore throughout the 50s. And for the next decade this kind of floral or feathered wreath was a go to for her.
HM looks fantastic in this wonderful lavender ensemble, but I’m not a fan of the conical vibe. The queen must have thought differently however, since she wore it at least three other times that year.

I’m also not a fan of the conical shape… but had to include it to show how bravely the Queen has experimented with different shapes!
Jimbo, I’m old enough to remember when airplane rides were special enough that people “dressed” to go on a flight, but am definitely laughing out loud at the idea of people dressing for the Greyhound station!
The Queen Mother’s hat is pretty odd looking as well, by today’s standards!
This style of hat heralds the Queen’s reign moving into the 1960’s. The lavender colour is gorgeous and overall I think it’s a very pretty look.
