Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 45

In 1974, Queen Elizabeth wore this helmet-shaped brimless green hat draped with the same blue and green printed silk several times. The highest profile wearing was on June 16 at the French Prix de Diane in Chantilly when her horse, Highclere, won the race.

  2. This is a gorgeous hat and a very cute outfit. The Queen looks positively luminous here.
I wonder if oversized – dare I say gigantic – lapels will make a comeback?

  3. This is such a peak 70s look! Those lapels… I really like this one (for its time), and this is bang in her ‘helmet with something going on round the back’ phase (a shorter description is maybe needed…) It’s a gorgeous shade of green and I particularly love it worn it just with the dress, very Margot Leadbetter.

  4. This is so interesting to see the close up of this beautifully made hat. It looks very chic on Queen Elizabeth with the strong green coat and the silk dress.
