We’re diving into Princess Beatrice’s wardrobe today for a look at the yellow, gold and orange hats she has stepped out in:

We do not see a lot of yellow or orange hats worn on royal heads and Beatrice’s auburn hair suits them well. The gold feather flowerss on #1 are absolute stunners, the orange felt “Dorito” stands out in memory for its modern, unique shape and I adored the pairing of #4 gold saucer with bold fuchsia dress. While #5 is technically a cream hat, the statement orange feathers made it impossible not to include here! The other two that deserve mention here are this pair of blue and orange hats by Laura Apsit Livens.

Which hats here do you remember most fondly?!

  1. I’ve always liked the blue and orange Livens hat (#6). The scale is great, the colors work well, and it’s a fresh look.
I agree with everyone that the orange color shouldn’t work on her, but it does. Instead of detracting, her beautiful titian hair enhances. I’ve really come to admire Beatrice’s style lately. It’s very confident.

  2. Surprising that she can wear this colour range so well with her hair colour – but she really does. She’s a bold hat wearer and so many great ones here. The orange Dorito hat and the teal and orange are classics of hers, and I do love the mustard and teal. Her wardrobe has got more polished lately, but she still looks fab and not afraid to try things.

  3. This is a really fascinating and eclectic selection of hats, brought together simply by the colour palette, so in a way a random selection in terms of shape and size. It shows what a great hat-wearer Beatrice is, never afraid to try different styles and interesting combinations, and clearly someone who has the good fortune to be able to wear an enormous range successfully (compared with some hat wearers who are definitely suited to some styles and not others, I feel).

I must say I like almost all of them on Beatrice, both the colours and the styles suit her (although I agree that some hats go better with the other outfits people have unearthed). In terms of the colours, I love the acid yellow hat with the teal coat and teal feather trim, it’s an unusual and strikingly good combination (although actually I think that acid yellow does least for Beatrice’s own colouring!) I also love the turquoise and orange combination in the first Ascot hot you show at the end, and I really like the contrast in the second hat there too, although a boater is not my favourite shape. I see I have picked hats based on the colour combinations, and I guess that’s because they are the most striking thing about this selection, but I also think the styles of the hats themselves are generally attractive and flattering.

  4. I always thought #1 looked much better at a later Ascot appearance in 2013 and still think it’s a great hat for Beatrice that I would like to see again (although I’m a bit sad at the loss of the 2 big curled quills):

    • I totally agree, Jake. This hat worked so well with this navy dress- I think the contrast gave it extra sparkle!

Same for the “Dorito” hat at Trooping the Colour in 2016, although I thought the hat placement was too far forward.

  5. A lovely retrospective of Princess Beatrice’s hats. Thank you Hat Queen.

No. 5 has always been a big favourite of mine. I love it.

  6. HatQueen, I hope you have had some time to enjoy summer sunshine (suitably protected by a beautiful sun hat!) after the marathon effort of the Platinum Jubilee hat retrospective.

I have a fondness for the last boater. The colour blocking is striking. A fresh look.

  7. While all of these hats are nice, I think PB looks better in hats that are not perchers. Would say that #2 is the best of the choices given. Really like the colors.

  8. P. Beatrice’s colouring is beautiful and she can certainly rock certain unusual colour schemes. For instance, I really like Hat #2 – the acidic mustard colour with the teal feather looks wonderful on her.

I also love the little explosion of striped and orange feathers in Hat #5. It’s so striking, the eye is drawn immediately.
