  1. Thank you again and always for the incredible amount of time and effort you put into this outstanding hat blog! I enjoy every post. With appreciation –

  2. While partially on trend for fashions as the 1950s progressed, the transition to smaller and simpler hats once she became Queen (to presumably to allow more visibility of HM’s face) does feel a bit abrupt after all the lovely eccentricity of her Princess hats. Another great collection!

  3. WOW – what a beautiful array of hats, of so many original and varied styles. Blown away! Apologies, as I feel I should have the answer to this, but do we know who the hatmakers of the 50’s and 60’s were??? I have to say I am a sucker for feathers, and its just such a shame there arent more colour photographs, but thankyou for sharing all of these.

    • I should have included this! Until 1952, it was Aage Thaarup almost exclusively, I believe. Simone Mirman then joined and I think Herta “Georgette” Groves a few years later. Frederick Fox was added in the late 1960s.

  4. This is an incredible selection of photographs of the young Queen Elizabeth in the first years of her long reign. Thank you again Hat Queen.
