Day 2 Dutch State Visit To Slovakia

For the second day of the Dutch state visit to Slovakia yesterday, Queen Máxima repeated a hat in black fur felt with a rounded crown and extended downward facing brim, raised on the left side. The design is trimmed with a black velvet padded hatband and multi looped bow.

The shape is SOOOO good – it’s amazing how a the subtle change of shape on a brim can make such a statement. The design has such beautiful balance and movement.

  1. I’ve been waiting for this hat to make another appearance, and it’s a fantastic one! Another great way to wear black (and even just black and grey) without things looking too funereal. A wide brim hat is a familiar sight on Máxima, but this one is shaped differently enough that it’s fresh and exciting, and the trim is well balanced; interesting to see her choose Treacy twice in a row, and on the same trip no less.

P.S. And I see she chose another low heel, but I will say this time the shoes seemed to better pair with the outfit, and they were the only ones she wore during the outing, making it less obvious than her previous chunky low heel the other day.

  2. Yes, this is a great hat. It seems to take its inspiration from the era of the Three Musketeers etc, a great mixture of style and swagger.

  3. The hat makes me think of the styles worn in ‘The Night Watch’ but yet completely modern and suited to HM.

  4. Fantastic hat; I’d like to see today’s hat in yesterday’s fantastic navy blue color, along with its matching coat, but a tad shorter.
Wouldn’t the balance be better? Notice more sensible shoes today – – 1st slideshow, 2nd photo.

Happy weekend, kapelophiles, and (some of us) don’t forget to spring forward.

  5. The hat is nice. The coat is too long and it might be the style but there should be sleeves.
It all reminds me of the robes the English royals wear to ceremonies usually in red .

    • Yes, I think it’s a cape rather than a coat, ie only slits for the arms to come out, no defined shape and no sleeves.
