50 years ago to this day in 1974 and the start of a Danish state visit to the UK.The cousin Queens both wore turban variations, Queen Margrethe in a veiled, close fitting design in pale yellow and Queen Elizabeth in a pale blue design folded in a kerchief-style at the back.

Queenly 70s drawing from both here. QM’s manages to be a bit more fresh and youthful, whereas QE’s is quite stiff and a bit matronly, as many of her outfits were about this time.
I have never been a fan of turbans, but I like Queen Margrethe’s interpretation of this style better than most. The pastel colors on both queens is spring-like and appropriate for this time of year.
I found a better video, with both magnificent queens. I DO love history, and hope someone else will enjoy this video also.
That was a wonderful video. I enjoyed watching it and wished that more royal visitors would arrive on their yachts at Greenwich. The fabulous welcoming at Windsor must have been a spectacle. Both Queens looked beautiful in their hats.

Queen Elizabeth’s hat was possibly debuted down under the previous October, for the official opening of the Sydney Opera House. On that day, HM didn’t wear the April 30, 1974 suit, but a sleeveless dress, the weather being quite breezy and warm. She also wore this hat for the Epsom Derby 5 weeks later, on June 5, 1974.
