I was not very impressed by any of the ladies this year. Nor am I very impressed by this modern take on an opening “ceremony” at the Parliament to be honest. This year the Parliament “celebrated” 50 years since they changed the occasion from a splendid ceremony at the Royal Palace to a more “modest” gathering at the Parliament building. At least the Royal procession TO the Parliament has kept some of the grandeur of the past.

If memory serves me, isn’t black/white the order of the day for the Royals. None of the hats/headpieces did much for me, but the queen looked very nice. Welcome back, HQ!
I like Q. Silvia’s hat and don’t care for CP Victoria’s headband. I think a more substantial hat would suit her much better.
I love Sylvia s hat and how she has it positioned on her head. Also like Sofia’s. However Victoria’s headpiece I think needs a paler outfit. Her dress does have white in it but is too black focussed and she has black shoes so I think it looks a bit odd. If it had a bit of black in with the solid white it might work
Interesting that I was going to reply that I like Silvia’s hat but NOT how she has it positioned on her head. To me it seemed like it was so slanted that it might slide off at any moment.
Agree about Victoria’s headpiece — perhaps if the dress had had a white belt, the headpiece might have blended better, or even a similar headpiece with both black and white rather than all white.
Welcome back, HQ! In your opening description, you referred to Victoria’s headpiece as a fascinator — may I ask what defines it as such? To me, in the way she wore it, it seemed like a headband with a flower in the back. (I might have agreed with the fascinator definition more if the flower had been up top.)
Headpiece vs fascinator…. a fascinator is technically, a hair decoration on a band, clip or comb (see a full description here). Princess Victoria’s headpiece fits that criteria, hence my calling it a fascinator!
How about we revisit these definitions this fall?
Princess Sofia’s hat was made by Matthias Lavesson from his Modesty Collection. I believe this is the first time she’s worn it (but if memory serves me correctly she’s had it in her closet for a few years).
Thanks, Sarah!
Love Silvias’s hat. Why am I am I having so much trouble with WordPress?
My thoughts are that I’m really happy when you post! Cheers
