Ascot Day 4

Sadly, there were no royal hats at the races today. Instead, I thought we might share the other hats we noticed at the races.

The first hat that jumped out to me this morning was this petrol blue (my favourite colour!) straw bandeau with feathers by Sarah Cant, worn by ITV Racing stylist Sarah Kate Byrne.

Ascot 2021 Day 3: Zara Tindall

Zara Tindall was back at Ascot Racecourse today in a pale pink beret percher.

The hat is wrapped in an interesting beigey-pink sinamay mini brim that folds into a loose knot with flying bow tails at the top of the design.

It’s enough of a variation on Zara’s go-to beret percher shape not to look samey and I really like the height provided by those flying bow tails. The two shades of pink also really work here. While I’m not a fan of the dress, it was a brave and successful choice to pair this hat with it as it calms down the voluminous romanticism of the dress.

Ascot 2021 Day 3: The Princess Royal & Vice Admiral Laurence

Princess Anne attended the third day of Royal Ascot today in another new hat!

In cream straw, this classic pillbox design is wrapped in cream trimmed feathers and finished with a looping cream straw bow and yellow feathers on the side.

It’s a great scale on Princess Anne and the shape pairs so well with her silk collared coat, another new addition to her wardrobe. The balance of trimming is also good, the cream feathers giving such subtle texture as they wrap around the pillbox.

Ascot 2021 Day 3: Countess of Wessex

It’s Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot! The Countess of Wessex continued her streak of repeating hats at this year’s event, bringing back the hat she wore to the Cambridge’s wedding in April 2011.With a rose-beige straw beret percher base, the hat  is trimmed with silk roses, feathers and raw edge gold veil.

The hat is a lovely scale on Sophie with perfectly balanced trim. Neutral hued hats seem to sink or swim… but this one soars thanks to its pairing today with this deep teal shirtwaist dress. The dress’ beige collar piping and gold embroidered palm trees on the skirt link beautifully with the hat, the two pieces elevating the other to create a stellar look for Sophie.
