Danish Royals Skiing in Switzerland

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and their children posed for pictures this morning with their children, Prince Nicolai, Prince Felix, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena. The family is on a skiing holiday in Villars, Switzerland so ski hats and helmets were the order of the day.

Princess Benedikte Celebrates Children’s Center

Last Thursday, January 30, Princess Benedikte of Denmark attended the 60th anniversary of Benediktegården, a nursery and day care center named in her honor. Benedikte wore a tan wool hat with striking abstract pattern inlaid into the crown of the hat. While I am not partial to the colour of this hat, I love the inlaid pattern and think it is a very effective way to make a traditional hat shape look contemporary and very striking. What do you think of this hat?

One Hat, Six Suits

Royal Hats Crown Princess Mary of Denmark relies on her black straw Susanne Juul hat for many occasions. While we have seen it at a number of memorial services and funerals (see here, here, here and most recently here) this hat has also accessorized outfits at numerous less sombre events. The ensembles seen here are quite diverse and include lace, tiered ruffles, a graphic wool check, and classic cut wool coats. I am curious, dear readers, which outfit to you think is best paired with this hat?

UPDATE: Crown Princess Mary added a sixth ensemble to this lineup when she paired this hat with a purple dress and black jacket for an ANZAC Day ceremony on April 25, 2015

Funeral of Countess Anne-Dorthe of Rosenborg

The funeral of Countess Anne-Dorthe of Rosenborg was held yesterday at Lyngby Church. Some of you might remember the funeral of her husband Count Christian in May this year (Count Christian was Queen Margrethe’s first cousin). The funeral was attended by Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe who wore her small black hat with fur cuff.

Princess Elisabeth, sister of the late Count Christian, wore a black bowler hat with a ribbon-edged brim.

Christian’s brother Count Ingolf of Rosenborg wore a black fedora. His wife, Countess Sussie, wife of Christian’s brother Ingolf, wore black hat with flat brim and crown, wrapped in a wide band of textured black fabric.

Count Christian and Countess Anne-Dorthe’s three daughters, Countess Camilla, Countess Josephine and Countess Feodora were all in sedate black hats. Loosing both their parents in the past year is a tragedy for them and I’m sure you join me in wishing them peace in their grief.

Queen Margrethe Attends Frue Kirke

Queen Margrethe attended a church service at Frue Kirke to mark the 70th anniversary of the death of Danish playwright and Lutheran pastor Kaj Munk (who was an important figure during the German occupation of Denmark in WWII). Margrethe repeated her oxblood red pillbox hat with black patent leather trim.
