Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 34

I couldn’t choose between two hats with uniquely woven crowns for today’s post so… why not share both?!

First is a lovely lavender brimmed hat with lattice woven crown the Queen wore for the Founders Day parade at Chelsea Royal Hospital on June 10, 1982 and a visit to RAF Wittering, Cambridgeshire on June 21 of the same year.

Second is a slate blue hat with straw kettle brim and crown woven with tubes of the same blue floral silk as her dress in an open basket weave pattern. She wore this Frederick Fox design on November 18, 1983 on a visit to India with a matching Hardy Amies dress.

During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Queen Elizabeth wore numerous voluminous tam hats in different fabrics. For overseas tours to Fiji, the Cayman Islands and India in 1982 and 1983, she wore this emerald silk pleated tam trimmed with oversize royal blue rose.

In June 1982, Queen Elizabeth wore this palest peach hat with matching scalloped crown and brim to a polo match at Smith’s lawn and to Royal Ascot.

During visits to Tunisia in October 1980, Sri Lanka in October 1981 and Papa New Guinea in October 1982, Queen Elizabeth wore this lovely pale jade straw hat with dotted veil and spray of pink silk flowers around the back.

During the summer of 1980, Queen Elizabeth wore this white bumper hat with navy and cognac trim to the Newbury Races. The punchy colour scheme is a lovely alternate to the usual nautical navy and red!
