Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 44

Queen Elizabeth wore this uniquely shaped hat (does anyone else see a flying saucer?!) during state visits to Japan and Mexico in 1975. She repeated it on June 29, 1977 on a visit to Portsmouth during her Silver Jubilee tour of Great Britain.

In 1974, Queen Elizabeth wore this helmet-shaped brimless green hat draped with the same blue and green printed silk several times. The highest profile wearing was on June 16 at the French Prix de Diane in Chantilly when her horse, Highclere, won the race.

On August 2, 1972, Queen Elizabeth visited the Isle of Man in this wonderful toque of white silk flowers with green silk stem bunch at the top.

Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 47

In October 1972, the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Anne paid a state visit to Yugoslavia. For their arrival in Belgrade, the Queen wore a royal blue felt cap with white visor and crisscross trim. You can see great video footage of this hat here.

Platinum Jubilee Countdown: 48

Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito) of Japan and Empress Kōjun (Nagako) made a state visit to Britain from October 5-8, 1971. To greet them at Victoria Station, Queen Elizabeth wore a peach hat with tall, rounded crown and wide, rolling brim.
