Day 2 & 3 of Danish Late Summer Cruise

Queen Margrethe continued her visit to Odsherred Municipality yesterday with stops at several museums and a converted fish market. She repeated her versatile natural straw hat, opting to place the turned down brim to the back and adding a hatband in the same plaid as her skirt. It’s a prim ensemble (very reminiscent of a school uniform) that ,I suppose, works for a cruise thanks to the nautical colour scheme.

Nautical hues continued today for stops in Favrskov Municipality with Queen Margrethe in a much repeated red straw hat. I don’t recall seeing it paired before with this navy dress and red jacket- the more streamlined pieces worked very well together and provided a wonderful backdrop for this hat (dare I say, giving it a new lease on life?). When it comes to Queenly nautical chic, this ensemble gets my vote.

Danish Queen Embarks on Summer Cruise

Queen Margrethe set off today on the second leg of this year’s annual summer cruise around the islands of her country. Today’s itinerary included visits to Kongsøre Naval Station along with stops at Dragsholm Castle, an children’s educational art program, a manufacturing facility, Algade town center, a nursing care centre, an art museum and a former fish market all located in Odsherred Municipality.

For this busy day of events, Queen Margrethe repeated the red bumper hat she first wore back in May. Today’s better view of this piece show it to be a bumper design with wide cuff brim embellished with stitching around the brim edge and a flat patterned bow at the side. Seeing this hat in full confirmed my initial assessment that while it is not the most exciting of millinery designs, it tops a vibrant and balanced ensemble that looks great on Margrethe. This is one of the times when the whole picture works better than a hat on its own and I particularly like how the streamlined cut of the coat are enlivened by the high contrast pattern on Margrethe’s dress.

Danish Royals Take Up Summer Residence

On Monday, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik arrived in Aarhus on the royal yacht en route to their summer residence at Marselisborg Palace. Queen Margrethe repeated her fuchsia straw hat with white rosette trim and and navy floral double hat band. I can’t help also noticing that Prince Henrik sported a new but very distinguished looking goatee.

We have seen this hat on Margrethe a few times but it’s still a lovely one on her, don’t you agree?

This Week’s Extras

A extras 1

Charming photos of Princess Anne watching her granddaughter, Mia Tindall, at a charity polo match last weekend. This came ahead of disappointing news for the Phillips family on Tuesday that Zara Tindall was not named to the British Equestrian Team for Rio 2016.

Acclaimed Canadian journalist Peter Mansbridge interviewed Peter and Autumn Philips in the days leading up to the Queen’s 90th birthday. I had meant to share this earlier (my apologies) and while some of the interview’s relevance has passed, Autumn gives a glimpse of what it’s like for a foreigner to marry in to the British Royal Family that’s most interesting.

Last Week’s Extras Times Two

Royal Hats This weekly feature was interrupted last weekend for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebration. Hang on to your hats- there’s much news to catch up!

The Swedish monarchs arrived in Bhutan on June 8 for a short state visit. Queen Silvia wore a floral headpiece for a banquet the first evening that looked to be made of real flowers. Part of the visit was more casual and saw the King wearing his trusty old fedora (Swedish Monarchy), brought out again last week for an interview (Svenskdam)

The Swedish royals released beautiful photographs of Prince Nicolas on the occasion of his first birthday here and here (Princess Madeleine Facebook). They also shared this wonderful video of the King and Queen’s wedding which took place 40 years ago, yesterday.

In all of the Ascot madness this week, I’m sure I have forgotten other tidbits of royal news. Please feel free to share them in the comments.
