Swedish Monarchs Open Exhibit

Last Friday, King Carl Gutaf and Queen Silvia opened an exhibition on the life, paintings and art collection of Prince Eugen (this year is the 150th anniversary of his birth) at the Waldemarsudde in Stockholm. For this event, Queen Silvia accessorized her pale pink suit and lace blouse with a dark clutch purse and fur calot hat. The contrast between the suit and sable brown hat was unexpected but provided a welcome wintertime context to the pastel ensemble. Fur calots will never be included on my list of most favourite royal hats but I think this one worked very well for Queen Silvia. What do you think of this hat and its pairing with this ensemble?

Swedish Royal Family Attend Friend’s Funeral

The Swedish Royal Family gathered today at the Katarina kyrka in Stockholm to bid farewell to Swedish business leader and friend, Peter Wallenberg. For this funeral, Queen Silvia wore a beautiful black pillbox hat. The crown of the pillbox was made of felt while the sides were wrapped in silk. A flat silk bow at the back completed this simple but striking hat.

Crown Princess Victoria wore Saint Laurent designed black rabbit fur felt hat with curved brim, trimmed with a simple black Persham hatband and rough edged bow at the front. If it looks familiar, she wore a similar (but different) hat to Princess Lillian’s funeral. The simple, classic lines of the hat work very well with the clean lines of her black coat.

Swedish Royals Support Anti-Hate Campaign

On Sunday, King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attended a special mass at Stockholm Cathedral. Part of the “Refuse to Hate” interfaith initiative, the service brought together representatives from numerous faiths in support of the Swedish Interfaith Council’s rejection of using religious arguments to legitimize hatred, violence and aggression. While Crown Princess Victoria did not wear a hat for this event, Queen Silvia wore a simple bowler in loden green felt trimmed with a ruched chocolate brown band around the crown. This sedate and rather boring hat does the job, I suppose…. but I thought this ground breaking initiative deserved a much more vibrant and exciting hat. Don’t you as well?
