Royals Attend Holmenkollen in Norway

Members of the Norwegian royal family and Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands attended ski and ski jumping races at Holmenkollen today. Nearly everyone was seen in a woolly knit ski hat or headband. I thought the hats worn by Princess Ingrid and Prince Sverre (featuring the Norwegian flag) were particularly smart. Hats aside, it’s nice to see royals having great fun together.

Royal Hats at the Olympics

As the Olympics draw to a close this weekend, I thought we should look back at some of the royal hats we have seen during the Sochi games.

Queen Sonja Opens Danish Exhibition

Last Friday, Queen Sonja opened the exhibition “Christian Krohg and the Times of the Kristiania Bohemians” in Copenhagen. For this event, she repeated her black sequined beret-style brimless hat. In the first photo, the hat looks a little squashed but all seems restored in the second photo. This is a sharp, angular hat but I think that makes it interesting and it seems well suited to Queen Sonja. What do you think?

Queen Sonja Visits Folk Museum

Queen Sonja of Norway visited the Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo today to see the exhibition “1814: The Game of Denmark and Norway“. She wore a lovely black wool velvet pork pie hat with pinwheel flower trim that matched the lapel on her charcoal suit. I thought the whole look was very chic and really liked the shape and scale of this hat on her. What do you think?

Nowegian Royals Preside Over Nobel Prize

King Herald Queen Sonja of Norway hosted the Nobel Peace Prize award yesterday. Queen Sonja repeated one of her more interesting hats- a hard shelled black brimless hat with pointed crown and sequinned sides (see a better photo of it during a previous wearing here). I am not usually a fan of hats with pointed crowns but this hat, which seems like a variation of a beret, somehow works. At the very least, it’s interesting and I think the sequined side of the hat is great fun and makes the simple shape of this hat look a little more formal. What do you think?
