Queen Visits Military Base

Queen Elizabeth visited RAF Marham in Norfolk; for this full day visit (which included sitting down to lunch in the officer’s mess!) she repeated an oddly shaped hat we have seen a couple of times already. While the colour of her hat and coat seems very fitting for a military engagement, I am still not a fan of this hat.

Princess Hisako Opens Tablewear Festival

Princess Hisako of Takamado attended the opening ceremony of 2014 Tableware Festival 2014 yesterday in Tokyo. She wore an oxblood wool suit with matching hat; the hat was unembellished except for a flat, upturned charcoal grey brim. I do not like beanie shaped hats for royal occasions and I’m afraid this hat does not change my opinion. What do you think?

The Queen at Church in King’s Lynn

Queen Elizabeth was all smiles this morning while attending church at West Newton in King’s Lynn with the Duke of Edinburgh. Perhaps that was partly due to her new hat! When the Queen first wore this tweed coat last October, she paired it with a pink straw hat trimmed with a bow made of the same fabric as her coat. It now appears that she had both summer and winter hats made for this coat- the winter hat today in pink wool felt was trimmed with blue and brown feathers and wrapped in a felt braided cord around the crown. While I like the shape on Her Majesty, I think this hat would be much better without the feathers.

Swedish Royals Attend Umeå Opening

The northern Swedish city of Umeå, appointed the 2014 European Capital of Culture 2014, welcomed Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and Princess Estelle to opening weekend of the festival yesterday. The royal trio stayed warm at the outdoor event in warm wool hats. Princess Estelle, as usual, looked  adorable in her cable-knit hat with pom pom.

Birthday of Princess Stéphanie

Royal HatsPrincess Stéphanie of Monaco celebrates her 49th birthday today. Her age is rather shocking to me- I suppose just as many other elements of her life have been. While Stéphanie is many things (former pop star and fashion designer, circus advocate, single mother, princess etc.), a hat wearer she firmly is not. I would love to see her in  this hat from French millinery house Ségolène Création. It’s modern, bold, and edgy with a rock ‘n roll vibe- perfect for Stéphanie.
