Birthday of Princess Caroline

Royal Hats Princess Caroline of Hanover and Monaco celebrates her 57th birthday today. This new grandmother continues to wow in Chanel couture; while she does not wear hats often, the millinery she chooses tends to be understated and elegant. I would love to see her in this hat by French milliner Céline Robert. The shape and embellishment are wonderfully dramatic while the charcoal colour fits well with the dark neturals Caroline usually wears. Trés chic, non?

Birthday of Queen Mathilde

Royal HatsQueen Mathilde of Belgium celebrated her 41st birthday yesterday. In the past year, she has emerged as one of the most interesting royal hat wearers and claimed top spot in our favourite hats of 2013. Choosing a hat for Mathilde was difficult but I have selected the “Carmen” bubblegum pink straw hat with open, curved lattice brim from British Milliner Rachel Black’s SS 2014 collection. Pink is a great colour for this Queen and she has rocked many an interesting hat shape in the past (see 40 of her past hats from her 40th birthday a year ago). I think this hat would be perfect for her.

Dutch King and Queen Welcome French President

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands received French President François Hollande at Noordeinde Palace this morning. Queen Máxima repeated the beige beret hat she wore for the 200th anniversary of The Kingdom of the Netherlands in November, perching it on the back of her head with her hair worn loose around her shoulders. It gives the effect of a pillbox hat which works very well with that incredible aqua dress, don’t you think?

Birthday of the Countess of Wessex

Royal HatsThe Countess of Wessex celebrates her 49th birthday today. I think Sophie is looking better than ever these days and her collaboration with British milliner Jane Taylor is one of the most exciting ones in all of royal millinery (and yielded two of our top ten royal hats in 2013). I can not imagine a better pairing than Sophie and Jane… so my pick for the Countess is something completely different. Vintage, simple and classic. I think this black cocktail hat with pearls and net veil would be dynamite on Sophie.

The designer of the hat above(left) is unknown; the hat on above right was designed by Nerida Fraiman. I’m curious, dear readers, what hat would you like to see on the Countess of Wessex this year?

NOTE- It is also Queen Mathilde’s birthday today. Think about what hat you want to suggest for our newest European Queen- we will celebrate her tomorrow!

British Royal Couple at Church in Norwich

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the Sunday Service at Wolferton Church in Norwich this morning. She repeated a peach coloured hat covered in the same textured fabric as hear coat, trimmed by feathers and a slim knotted bow. I’m not partial to this shade on Her Majesty although I like the scale and decoration on the hat. What do you think?
