Norwegian Royals Attend Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded today in Oslo and as always, the Norwegian royal family was in attendance. Queen Sonja repeated her deep teal wool rounded pillbox trimmed with a wide stripe of embroidered silk ribbon that encircles the piece and a flat bow at the back. The shape of this pillbox is still a little too rounded and bulbous for my taste but the colour is so fantastic on Sonja, the odd shape hardly matters.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit eschewed a hat once again, opting to repeat her gold headband. To tie in with her black accessories, she wove the headband with a black velvet ribbon that extended at the bottom to wrap around the base of her low ponytail. This integration of headpiece and hairstyle gets bonus points from me… but that doesn’t negate the sad fact that once again, she wore a headband to one of the biggest millinery events of the Norwegian royal year. Hop over to this post to see the other four ways she has worn this headband in the past.

  1. I will never consider a fancy hairband a good idea when it’s instead of a proper hat! As hairbands go, it’s interesting, but it does nothing to console for the absence of a proper hat of some description. Love the colour of Sonja’s.

  2. Both Sonja and Mette-Marit are gorgeous women, but they both have had a heck of a time trying to find hats that work well for them over the years, with plenty of hits and misses. This pillbox doesn’t look very well-made and her scarf is done up in a very dated style, but the colors are great for Sonja (she can pull off bold colors like few others can). Mette-Marit always dresses amazingly and doesn’t miss the mark in these headbands, but they certainly are boring after a while; I wish she would try out some cocktail hats as that is not a style she has ever done before.

  3. I’m afraid these are both “misses” for me. Sonja’s hat looks…well, home-made. I agree that the shape is strange, but it also seems unfinished. I agree with the comment above about MM’s headband looking juvenile. Also, I dislike the color on hose/stockings on both of them. Sonja’s are just plain strange (see last photo) and the black on MM overwhelms her white dress.
