King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima welcomed President of Singapore Halimah Yacob and her husband Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee this morning at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the start of a three-day visit. For this welcome, Queen Máxima repeated her purple felt picture hat with dramatic, sidesweeping brim.
It’s no wonder this hat was named your favourite royal hat in 2014 – the scale and colour are fantastic on Máxima and the upswept brim is beautifully balanced by that gentle wave pleat on the opposite side, a subtle detail that gives wonderful movement to the design. The hat’s pairing with a purple scarf, statement earrings and the same raspberry silk coat we saw her wear for the Austrian state visit last week is regal and bold although I’m less sure about the flowy, high-low hemmed floral dress, which seems an unusually summery choice for this ensemble.

This is the sixth ensemble we’ve seen paired with this hat (see the others at this post)- what do you think of this hat’s outing today in Amsterdam?

My very favorite color. She looks so good.
Maxima always goes big but I think the whole outfit is too matchy in terms of color.
Wonderful hat her her along with this coat and scarf. I much agree, the dress under the coat is off-season for the rest of the outfit.
Hat, coat, gloves and scarf work beautifully together, without being too matchy.
The dress, on the other hand, is nice in and of itself – if rather swallowed by the coat – but the Queen looks cold, which is never a plus. Taken in by an unreliable weather forecast, perhaps?
This isn’t one of Máx’s best our together looks is it. The components are nice apart but together they look like a mish mash in particular the hem on that dress, which just looks a mess hanging down like that.
Absolutely fabulous! Queen Maxima stays right at the top of the fashion stakes!
So happy this hat returned after we talked about it briefly during Máxima’s last hat outing! I do think the dress hem is oddly unseasonal and distracting here, but honestly I think her coat is just swallowing her. It’s a beautiful color and in that closeup photo is looks good with the hat and scarf, but a full view just demonstrates how weird it is. I do wish we could see this hat and dress without the coat as the combination has much potential. I would also like to see this hat paired with outfits of other colors, like grey and navy, just to mix it up a bit more.
This combination of pinks and purples works better than I would have imagined, but that hem is so distracting! Also, the scarf, chignon, and wide brim together make this look very crowded around the neck and shoulders.
It’s still a spectacular hat, perhaps the best of the slices. I think the pairing with the teal is still my favorite.
Happy Thanksging, everyone!
I like it, it suits her, the occasion the season the weather however I have one tiny quibble since there are so many new hat designers around I sometimes wish we see some new shapes and sizes. When I see the instagram roundup of hats on this blog I often wonder how it will look on a royal.
