You can always count on the Royal Family of Bourbon Two Sicilies for dramatic, glamorous (and cheesy) portraits. Here’s their 2019 New Years greeting.
And a lovely country sunrise, shot by James Ogilvy, to usher in this new year. The best of 2019 to you all!

Interesting selection of millinery designs. Love the Monika Neuhauser cream saucer: it is beautifully made, crin can be such a tricky material. The Stephen Jones’ straw cap has a lovely Jane Austen vibe about it!
Thank you for featuring my sequinned percher, Hat Queen. It was fun to make, although it nearly ruined my scissors. I picked up the fabric on one of my trips to Paris and it had been laying in a box for a while before I got an idea what to do with it. You can flip over the sequins with your fingers to show the bright silver side of them and create a different pattern each time.
The double sided sequins are fantastic on a hat and something I’ve not seen before!
That double-sided sequin effect sounds dazzling on an already stunning percher, Wies Mauduit!
I see what you mean about the Stephen Jones design, but my first impression was of the 1920s, like the fabulous fashions worn by Essie Davis in the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries series. But good designs come back, and they tend to look different in each incarnation.
I love playing with double-sided sequins!
I was thinking of Queen Margrethe when I saw Stephen Jones straw hat. I thought it would be great if she wore it on one of her summer cruises.
I agree. That’s a Phryne Fisher hat through and through! 🙂 TBH, I never thought the plots were up to much but the costumes and period detailing were fascinating.
What a pity I never saw these MFMM series. I love detective/murder mysteries (well, on television) and I adore costume plays!
You might like to Google some images of the costumes — maybe you’ll give us your professional appraisal of the hats!
That’s true about the plots, but, oh, those costumes!
