Annual King’s Day celebrations were held today in Rotterdam, this year celebrating King Willem-Alexander’s tenth anniversary as Dutch king (how time flies!). He was joined by his wife, two daughters (Princess Alexia is away at school in the UK) and members of the Dutch extended royal family.
Queen Máxima dressed in the bright green and white of Rotterdam’s flag, repeating a draped abaca calot headpiece.

The halo face-framing shape is so pretty from the front, thanks to the lovely draping on this design. It’s the side view that still feels a bit clunky and less refined.

Royal Hats 
Of course, close up I’m still not a huge fan on this headpiece due to the messy details, but as an overall look, Máxima was stunning! Having her hair down and placing the calot a little farther back helped streamline and balance everything, and the nod to Rotterdam’s flag was a great touch (I wasn’t aware of that before this post). Brava!
No surprise Amalia didn’t sport any headpiece, but she rocked that magenta trouser suit and jungle green clutch! Ariane looked great in her blue-violet headband and color-coordinated ensemble.
I love the green, and the nod to the city is thoughtful. It all the excess fabric in the draping of the dress, plus the draping on the calot that all seems like a bit too much. A more tailored dress might have made the draping on the calot sing a little bit more. Love the hot pink on Pss. Amalia!
That green on Máxima is spectacular, such a fabulous colour and the flare of the dress has real presence; she looks amazing.
The two Princess A’s look lovely too, right for their age and stylish.

I wasn’t sold on the green until I learned this shade and white are the two colours on Rotterdam’s flag, and then I adored it! It makes such a vibrant statement.
The green outfit is so nice..the hat could have been placed more to the front perhaps.
