King Charles and Queen Camilla concluded their state visit to Germany today in Hamburg. Queen Camilla braved less than ideal weather in a new hat described by its maker as, “The optimum hat for country pursuits. The Estate hat, made of British tweed and faux fur, is an excellent choice for those searching for cosiness this winter.”

Camilla has numerous similar hats with ruched tweed crowns; this design feels slightly more sophisticated thanks to its smooth crown (albeit with a distracting seam) and charcoal colour, which pairs well with the deep blue dress and coat. I know this style is not the favourite of everyone here but on a cold, rainy day, you just can’t beat cozy.

Queen Máxima attended the 51st annual spring conference of theNetherlands Psychiatric Association (NVvP) in Maastricht. For this event the Dutch Queen, who is honorary chairwoman of MindUS, an initiative focusing on mental health issues, repeated her midnight blue felt fedora with Petersham ribbon hatband tied in a side bow.
At first glance, the ensemble is effortlessly chic, the hat’s clean lines linking with those of dress, leaving room for the lace embellishment on the dress to take spotlight in the ensemble. However, at closer side view, the hat’s brim has a wonky curve that lends an overly floppy vibe that, in my opinion, lets it down.

King Charles and Queen Camilla landed in Germany today for the start of their first state visit of the king’s reign.
Queen Camilla repeated her deep turquoise felt beret decorated with diamond-trimmed peacock feathers anchored with a quartet of turquoise felt layered squares.

The standout colour is terrific on Camilla, its vibrancy so fitting for both the season and such a high profile event. The treatment of the peacock feather trim is masterful here, the sweep giving a grander scale to the hat and the sharp, graphic shape highlighting the feather’s beautiful patterns and colour in a more refined and restrained way than a full plume would have. The first time we saw this hat, it was paired with a polarizing harlequin coat and I much prefer the sleeker turquoise coat worn today.
