Queen Margrethe repeated her bright pink hat and suit last Sunday to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Frederiksborg Castle’s Church

Queen Elizabeth also wore a pink hat to church last Sunday- one I think was new! It looks like a variation on a top hat in pink straw with an upcurled brim on one side but we’ll have to wait until its next outing for a better view. You can see glimpses of hats worn by Princess Anne and Autumn Phillips here.

Infanta Elena donned one of her go-to straw fedoras to watch polo with her father earlier this month (Semana)

The Duchesse de Vendôme’s sister, Doña María Magdalena de Tornos y Steinhart, was married last weekend in Vienna Austria to Comte Jean d’Andlau de Cleron d’Haussonville. The bride’s headpiece was noteworthy- before her father’s death in 2013, he gifted her with a necklace from his mother and she creatively incorporated it into her headpiece. One of the hats at the Het Loo Palace exhibition on Princess Beatrix’s millinery appeared on social media this week. It’s such a beautiful colour palate that we don’t often see on royal hats. The exhibition, incidentally, has been extended until the end of October.

Reader Avery identified the hat Princess Stéphanie wore in England earlier this month as the work of Belgian milliner Amelie D’Hooghvorst. Great find, Avery!

Queen Margrethe in familiar hats Thursday and Friday to conclude the second leg of her annual summer cruise.

Millinery designs that turned my head this week included:

Classic and oh-so wearable straw hat from Fabienne Delvigne
Beautiful blue straw boater from Lisa Tan
Fringed natural straw lampshade beach hat from French label Veronica Marucci Chapeaux
Graceful turban headpiece, also from Veronica Marucci Chapeaux, that is greatly warming me to open crowned hats
Floral trimmed pieces from Meg Rafter millinery
And this stunning white straw picture hat with black floral trim from California based Elmira Exclusive Hats

First glimpse of the new Swedish prince yesterday (the announcement of his name and Te Deum service will happen on Monday)

Lots shared by the Danish court this week:

Handsome portrait released by the Danish court of Prince Nikolai for his 18th birthday.
Prince Henrik’s dachshund Tillia recently had puppies. The energetic litter looks to be very popular not only with Prince Frederick & Princess Mary’s four children but with their new dog Grace as well
Getty has a gallery of great photos of the Danish royal family arriving for Prince Nikolai’s birthday dinner on board the royal yacht Dannebrog Tuesday night.
This family portrait (minus Prince Frederick, who was in South Korea on IOC business) was taken to mark the event.

The Belgian king and queen shared this photo yesterday of their children, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleanore, on their first day of school.

Queen Elizabeth wore a new teal blue hat to church last Sunday. Frustratingly, there are no pictures I can share but you can see it here. Today, she made a surprise appearance at the Aboyne Highland Games in her lilac straw hat with flowers by Rachel Trevor Morgan.

Princess Elena’s predictable ‘wear fedora to bullfight’ routine was stirred up this week with a chocolate version paired with jazzy hot pink tassel earrings. The charming photo of her children (with Froilan in a baseball cap) was taken today at the 36th Copa Del Rey Mafre Sailing Cup in Palma de Mallorca

The following hats caught my eye this week:

Wide brimmed natural straw boater from The Hat Shop in New York
Amazing sense of movement on this raspberry pink leather and crin headpiece from Aussie brand Jill and Jack Millinery
Unexpected and interesting feather trim on this Susanne Juul design
Show stopping white straw and lace cocktail hat from Irish brand Montgomery Millinery
Classic and crisp black and white trilby from Jill Courtemanche Millinery
And for a fall trilby, this striking electric blue felt one with gold maple leaf from Rachel Trevor Morgan

I’m reluctant to provide another platform for complaints but as Prince Henrik’s rather unsavory announcement made international headlines this week, it deserves acknowledgement, however petty and ungracious it is (New York Times)

New photo of Prince Louis of Luxembourg with his sons, Prince Noah and Prince Gabriel, released this week for Louis’ 31st birthday (Luxarazzi)

And finally, lovely snaps of the Spanish king and queen with their daughters taken this week during their annual summer vacation in Palma de Mallorca

Tatiana Santo Domingo’s fair trade fashion line “Muzungu Sisters” showed a collection at Monaco Fashion Week 2017 yesterday. She wore an interesting headpiece from the collection to a related event Thursday night where she was joined by her husband and sisters-in-law Beatrice Borromeo and Princess Alexandra. Bohemian royal tiara, anyone?

King Albert and Queen Paola in casual hats for their recent visit to the Basilica of Avioth in French Lorraine. We’ve not seen Queen Paola much this year following her back injury and it’s great to see her up and around.

Great snap of King Juan Carlos and King Felipe taken yesterday at the 300th anniversary of the Marine Guard Company in Marín. Both kings are former graduates of the naval academy and looked quite dapper in their summer naval whites.

Rachel Trevor Morgan at Epsom today in a very fun, floral trimmed saucer hat of her own design. Vibrant statement hat + impeccably tailored monochrome coat = perfect ensemble for the races

Buckingham Palace released this short behind the scenes look at the preparations royal gardeners complete before each Garden Party.

Princess Mako is visiting Bhutan this week- her meeting with the King and Queen yesterday yielded some lovely photographs (traditional dress is always so beautiful) and her vibrant blue outfit to open Japan week made me smile.

Beautiful portraits of Crown Princess Victoria were released yesterday for her upcoming 40th birthday.

And finally, stunning shots of Queen Elizabeth taken this week by royal photographer extraordinaire, Chris Jackson

While there are still a few more hats and headpieces to look through from yesterday’s christening in Sweden, I’ll save those for Monday and get on with our regular weekend review.

Speaking of Ascot…I have long thought that one of the UK royals should collaborate with Scottish milliner William Chambers. This ostrich trimmed hat he shared this week would make SUCH a fantastic statement at the races!

Belgian milliner Fabienne Delvigne shared a peek at this new design – I wonder if we’ll see it again soon on a young Belgian or Dutch princess?!
