Queen Margrethe Celebrates Church Restoration

Queen Margrethe of Denmark attended an Evensong service yesterday at St. Albans Anglican church in Copenhagen. St. Albans recently underwent a restoration and yesterday’s service celebrated this work. Margrethe repeated her oxblood red wool felt pillbox with black patent band trim and bow. It’s a smart hat on her, isn’t it?

Danish Royal Couple Open Maritime Museum

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark opened the Maritime Museum in Helsingør yesterday. Margrethe repeated one of our favourites- her turquoise blue porkpie hat with curved brim. I love that she cheekily chose a blue hat and suit to open a maritime museum! You’ve got to love a royal hat wearer with both a sense of occasion and a sense of humour.

Danish Royals attend the Opening of Parliament

Queen Margrethe, Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte were all in attendance this morning for the official opening of Danish Parliament. As per tradition, the women were all in hats! Alas, it was all repeats today but a repeated hat is better than no hat at all, don’t you think?

Queen Margrethe wore her charcoal grey koosh ball trimmed trilby. It’s such a sharp little design, especially paired with that pop of magenta on her blouse.

Crown Princess Mary repeated her staple black wool hat with straw brim and double feather trim. We have seen this hat a lot, and with many different outfits and it always looks great.

Princess Marie wore the black looped ribbon fascinator we first saw on her last month. It’s a little sedate for a fascinator but Marie wears it well. I thought she looked quite polished and elegant.

Princess Benedikte wore what I think might be a new hat. This chocolate brown wool bumper hat featured a tall, rolled  upturned brim patterned with diagonal stripes. The stripes were an attractive touch although I’m not sure this style and colour is my favourite for Benedikte. We have seen her look so beautiful in more brightly coloured hats- I just don’t think this colour is for her.

Some minor quirks aside, they were an attractively hatted family today, weren’t they? Which one of these hats was your favourite?

Danish Royals Host Vietnamese State Visit

The Danish Royal Family welcomed Vietnamese president His Excellency Truong Tan Sang and Madam Mai Thi Hanh on a state visit to Denmark this morning (a video of the arrival can be viewed on the Danish Royal website here),  For this welcome, Queen Margrethe repeated the turquoise blue beret-style hat we saw her wear just last weekend in Sweden. Today’s photos however, revealed an element of this hat more clearly than we have seen it before- notice the stripe of beaded trim running diagonally across the hat (most visible in the third photo). It adds a bit of sparkle and interest, doesn’t it? I continue to really like this hat for Queen Margrethe.

Crown Princess Mary repeated one of her most frequently worn hats- a black wool picture hat with square crown, black straw brim and double feather trim. It is a versatile, clean and modern hat that looks great on Mary, particularly when she wears her hair in a chignon as she did today. I also really loved it paired with her teal blue coat.

Princess Marie repeated the hat she last wore in May for Prince Nicolai’s confirmation. A close look at this hat (see here) shows it is actually a navy straw fedora with a net veil wrapped around the crown and a silk flower on the side. I like to think of it as a “dressed up” fedora and I like it very much on Marie.

Princess Benedikte repeated her fuschia pink straw wide-brimmed picture hat but instead of wearing the brim down as she did last time, she turned it up on one side. I always thought the colour and shape of this hat was wonderful on Benedikte and seeing the added versatility of the brim today made me love it even more.

I thought the Danes’ millinery choices were fantastic today- certainly better than what we saw their Swedish cousins choose yesterday.  Which hat in Denmark today was your favourite?
