Catching Up With the Danish Queen

On Sunday, Queen Margrethe attended a service at Elsinore Cathedral for the installation of Peter Birch as bishop of the Diocese of Elsinore. For this, she repeated the pink beret with with side twist trim she first wore in May for Prince Christian’s confirmation.

It remains a great hat for Margrethe, the twist adding a touch of light whimsey and the bright shade one she wears so well.

Back on board the Danish royal yacht Dannebrog for the second leg of her annual summer cruise, Queen Margrethe visited Thisted Municipality yesterday. For a walkabout in the harbour, an official welcome at Bunkermuseum Hanstholm, a visits to Thy Whiskey, Cold Hawaii Inland (formerly known as the Port of Synopal), Thy National Park at the North Atlantic Lighthouse and the National Park Center Thy in Vorupør, she wore her natural straw hat with nautical navy, red and white tartan bias-cut hatband in the same pattern as her skirt.

Today, she was back in vibrant pink as the summer cruise continued to Esbjerg Municipality, her pink suit topped with its matching curved brim hat trimmed in a double hatband in the same navy floral fabric as her blouse and pink and white silk blossoms.

The vibrant ensemble is a great go-to for the Danish queen and while it’s become very familiar to us hat watchers, I can’t fault seeing it again.

After years of following the summer cruise tradition, Queen Margrethe’s nods to nautical with attire on these visits by sea are well honed. What do you think of these three millinery looks for her so far this week?

  1. Glad to see the watermelon pink beret percher back out again. Such a great color and hat design for Margarethe.

I’m a bit surprised it’s been 5 years since we last saw this plaid look, although a perfectly appropriate return for the summer cruise. A classic shape that looks fantastic on her. Nothing really new to say about the true pink look other than it’s still yet another good color and hat shape for her.
