Cheltenham Festival 2022 Day 4

Princess Anne and Zara Tindall continued their attendance at the Chetenham Festival this week on its final day today. Princess Anne repeated a hat she’s worn to this event in the past, an angular cloche in wheat coloured straw with a brim extension on one side that is sharply upswept and covered in feathers. The hat is trimmed with an ivory floral patterned silk jacquard sash hatband and a spray of feathers on the side opposite the raised brim.

Zara Tindall topped a raspberry coat with a lovely hat described by the designer as a “Black wool felt beret with velvet red roses, velvet leaves and bronze curled quills.”

The hat has lovely contrast, its berry hued flowers linking so well with the vibrant coat and the copper curled quills lending  lift through their little bit of shine. I also really like how the hat’s brimless shape balances with the coat’s shawl collar which would be overwhelmed with a brimmed hat. It’s another well styled and really pretty look for Zara.

That wraps up the Cheltenham Festival for 2022? What was your favourite royal millinery look at the races this year?

  1. They really threw a lot at this hat for Anne, and while I’ve been wary of it previously, this time made me realize I’m not a fan of the hatband. It is a messy detail in a hat that features much more streamlined trim otherwise. I’m also not a fan of the color scheme, but that’s a personal problem.

I want to like this cocktail hat for Zara, but as it’s her 4th one of the week this one unfortunately just doesn’t ring as special; I was hope she might try a brimmed style at some point, but alas no. Her berry coat is so fab though!

  2. I love this hat of Princess Anne’s, there’s a fair bit going on, but the tones all meld and produce a harmonious whole, particularly as there is also a “natural materials” vibe uniting it.

Somehow I’m not wowed by Zara’s percher, and I do think it’s a bit too small to creat a balance outfit.

  3. No contest for me here. Zara’s deep petrol blue percher from Day 2 is my favourite Royal hat of the Cheltenham Festival week. Thank you for all the lovely pics.
