Catching Up With Danish Royals

On Wednesday, Queen Margrethe travelled on the Danish royal yacht Dannebrog to her summer home at Gråsten Palace, repeating her bright pink suit and matching hat for the journey.

The hat is trimmed in a double hatband in the same navy floral fabric as her blouse and pink and white silk blossoms.

The same day, Prince Felix graduated from high school at Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium. Joined by his parents and elder brother for the ceremony, he wore a traditional Danish graduation cap.

Also on Wednesday, Princess Benedict was in Vordingborg to take part in centennial celebrations of the Historical Botanical Gardens at Vordingborg Castle For this event, she topped a floral dress with her ecru straw picture hat with broad, sidesweeping brim and wide hatband.

Yesterday, Queen Margrethe attended the Royal Life Guards “Watch Parade” in Copenhagen to present the “Queen’s Watch” military award and official opened a Viking exhibition at the National Museum in Copenhagen. For these events, she repeated her wide brimmed red straw hat with lattice patterned fabric diagonally overlaid over the crown and on the brim’s binding. The hat is finished with a slim hatband and front bow.

Centenary of Southern Jutland’s Reunification

One of the many royal events postponed during the height of the pandemic was the June 13, 2020 100th anniversary of Denmark’s reunification with Southern Jutland following the German defeat in the First World War. This celebration took place a year later than scheduled, yesterday, with Queen Margrethe, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian attending a ceremony at the old border to Germany, at Frederikshoej, south of Kolding.

Queen Margrethe marked the occasion with a new wide brimmed picture hat in white parasisal straw, simply trimmed with a silk hatband.

It has been a long while since we saw the Danish queen in a hat with brim as large as this and it’s a nice change to see, even though I’m not excited by the all white ensemble.
