Queen Elizabeth made her traditional appearance at the Braemar Gathering in Aberdeenshire today, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales. The Queen, who is patron of these Highland Games, looked relaxed and quite amused as she braved the weather to cheer on participants in a variety of brawny and entertaining events.

The Queen repeated a rosy beige wool hat with a slightly diagonal crown, flat brim and feather poof on the side. I like how the coordinating ribbon wrapped around the crown gives subtle texture and the feathers add a touch of fun and whimsy. This hat is not in a strong colour but I think the details all combine to make it quite a lovely hat. It’s quite a great shape for Her Majesty as well, don’t you think?

FYI – the lady in red sitting to the left of HM is Madame Patricia Farquharson, wife of the Farquharson Clan Chieftain Captain Alwyne AC Farquharson and titular Laird of Invercauld Estate so co-patron of the Games. Mme F has great style – it is interesting to see the hats others wear when they are in the company of HM… I wish we knew what they were laughing at…
Don’t you wish you could see what she is seeing in the first picture? Too cute!
She looks absolutely lovely in this hat and in fact the entire outfit is so soft and warm on her. The hat, I can’t tell the difference so if there are 2 hats that look the same, can I perhaps buy the 2nd hat? It’s a wonderful hat, this would look so nice with my suit for church, the colors would be perfect. Wonder how many hats the Queen has and what she does with the ones she doesn’t want anymore? Are they for sell? To own a hat by the Queen, wow, guard it with your life, that would be a real treasure.
I love the decoration on this hat.
‘Tis a lovely bonnet.
she looks so happy and relaxed
I just looked at the hat you linked to that this one looks like and they are so much alike. I don’t know how you keep all these hats straight!
Great photos, lovely hat and coat…that color is good on her and perfect for this time of yr…not too bright yet not giving in to fall/winter…and I am sure it’s cool up there (wishing it were cool were I live)…had heard possibly the Cambridges might join them for this weekend but whatever plans changed a day or so ago…Price Phillip still has not met his new great-grandson! I need to check the calendar but I think the Queen’s summer visit to Scotland is due to end here soon and she returns to London.
This hat is all about balance – the brim size, the colour, the puff on the front, other decorations and the match with the outfit. It all works because of the balance. This hat is another winner.
You are absolutely right. This hat (like many others) works because of the collective details. It really is perfectly balanced.
I never thought of a hat as balanced but I get what you mean. This one really is very pretty on the Queen.
I really like this one too. I like the plain pink hat together with her plaid pink coat.
I totally agree as well.
Love all the natural photos you have of the Queen….she has a great smile.
