Kent Wedding at Windsor: Royal and Notable Guests

In addition to the Kent family, Gloucester family and British royal family, Saturday’s wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston was also attended by a number of foreign royal guests. King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece were spotted arriving, the Green queen in a repeated her ecru and gold woven straw pillbox with whimsical, looped side bow.

Designer: Philip Treacy
Previously Worn: October 20, 2012; April 29, 2011

Our friends over at Luxarazzi spotted Prince Philipp and Princess Isabelle of Liechtenstein among the guests. Princess Isabelle wore a wide-brimmed black straw hat with ruched brim overlay studded in pink silk flowers.

The Bulgarian Princess of Turnovo wore a large percher headpiece in pale grey crin. We don’t see Miriam at many royal events (especially after Prince Kardam’s passing in 2015), it was lovely to see her again on Saturday.

The bride was photographed in familiar embrace with Brazillian Prince João Henrique of Orléans and Bragança. His wife, Claudia, paired a mustard dress with a natural straw vertical saucer hat trimmed in slim multi-looped bows both above and below the raised side of the brim.

Scrolling through the gallery below brings up photos of several more Brazilian princesses. Duchess of Segorbe, Princess Maria da Gloria of Orléans-Bragança topped her green dress with a soaring, waved natural straw hat trimmed with what looks like a silk abacca hatband and flying bow tails (a Brazillian princess by birth, Gloria was the first wife of Prince Alexander of Serbia but is now married to the Spanish Duke of Segorbe).  Princess Yasmin of Orléans-Bragança paired her red dress with a matching circular layered headpiece in red crin.

While not royal, a number of noteable guests at this wedding also included:

That wraps up our look at the hats worn to Lady Gabriella’s wedding. Please share ones not covered here that caught your eye in the comments below.

  1. I loved this gorgeous wedding and avidly read all I could … thank you HQ – you have the best and most comprehensive review … these were all such lovely hats – although I’m so sorry that apart from the one group photo – there was very little said about the Thomas’s family anywhere ! (I always think it’s such a shame that the other families at royal weddings – are not really recognised by either the press or the commentators) by any chance would you have any photos available of the Kingston family ?

  2. Looking at Pippa’s bandeau, it occurs to me that maybe the Duchess of Gloucester could have her 80s headband cut in half and mounted on a base and turned into a bandeau to update it.

But seriously, many thanks to HatQueen for such extensive coverage of this wedding — it has been very enjoyable seeing the photos of all the attendees, even though I didn’t comment much!

  3. This seems to be one of Anne-Marie’s go-to hats for royal weddings; it’s a beautiful one for her no doubt, but I’m afraid I’m a little bored with it at this point.

Isabelle’s hat has potential, but I worry those pink flowers were just randomly added to a black hat just to help match with her outfit.

I wish we had more views of Miriam’s headpiece because it looks pretty fab. I also love her dress with the green and orange.

While I’m unfamiliar with all of these Brazilian royals, they all looked lovely in their outfits and hats.

As for additional guests: Jemima Goldsmith’s whole look is one to emulate if one is looking to wear a hat on a more everyday basis, but is a look that can easily be dressed up; so happy to see Carole Middleton bring back this fantastic hat as it’s one of my all-time favorites for her; and Jill Kingston, Thomas Kingston’s mother, looked fabulous in her disc headpiece:

The plus one of best man Benjamin Crowe looks lovely, no idea who she is, though. Small red hat, long red and white dress.

  5. Thank you HatQueen for this extensive coverage of the wedding. Had no time to commment, but everybody else has said all, and said it well!
Hope the bride and groom will be very, very happy indeed!

  6. How do the Brazilian royals know the Kents? Gabriella looks close to the one prince.
Queen Anne Marie’s hat has a lot more to it than you see at first glance. Maybe not appealing to the younger crowd but for a woman of a certain age it’s really beautiful. Same for the Brazilian princess in the green dress. She looks great. And Carole Middleton. She always looks so elegant and her hat here is beautiful.

    • I forgot to say a huge THANK YOU HatQueen for all these posts. This was a beautiful wedding and there are photos of WAY more royals here than I’ve seen on any other website. Your writeups are always head & shoulders above everyone else.

      • I concur – thank you. This is a great blog to follow, with really interesting content and opinions worthy of reading. I agree that the Brazilian family look fantastic – their fashions appear slightly less fussy than what the European/UK contingent seems to favour.

    • I think Lady Gabriella or her husband have work connections in South America. The Royal world is a small one – I expect if they’ve travelled there often, they meet their peers there!
