Queen Pops In For Polo and Carriage Driving

Queen Elizabeth was all smiles yesterday at the Guards Polo Club at Smith’s Lawn to attend the Royal Windsor Cup polo match and a carriage driving display by the British Driving Society.

For these events, she repeated her lime straw hat with tall crown and short, sideswept brim. The hat is trimmed with a lime crepe silk hatband in the same fabric as her coat and a handmade straw flower.

Despite its small sale, this hat’s unique crown and brim shapes, vibrant colour and oversize flower trim make a statement. The streamlined coat works so well to balance the hat and the delicate floral print on the dress sweetens ensemble’s overall impact (it’s a lot of lime!).  The overall look is a lighthearted one that the queen wears well.

Queen At Horse Show and Day In Manchester

Last Saturday, Queen Elizabeth attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show in the pink straw hat with gently sidesweeping brim and multiple bow trim she first wore last month to host President and Dr. Biden.

On Sunday, she was back at the show in her blue hat with straw sidesweeping brim and fabric covered crown (which also binds the brim edge in a wide stripe) trimmed with a posy of blue and white silk flowers, blue seed pearls and slim white feathers, along with several looped blue blue wool silk bows.

Today, Her Majesty was in Manchester where she paid visits to Manchester Cathedral and the set of Coronation Street.

For these visits, she debuted a peacock blue textured wool covered hat with upturned kettle brim, slightly raised on one side. The hat is trimmed with a large ostrich feather and an unusual wrap of silver lurex threads around the hatband on the side (notice that the ensemble’s coat is embroidered with silver Celtic knots around the collar and on the buttons).

The colour is so beautiful on the queen and while the ostrich feather doesn’t photograph well in every shot, it provides some textural contrast needed in an ensemble with hat and coat in the same textured fabric.

Conclusion of Dutch State Visit to Germany

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima concluded their state visit to Germany today with visits to the Technical University of Berlin, conservation area Landschaftspark Herzberge, Herzberge Landscape Park and Humboldt Forum museum.

For these events, Queen Máxima repeated her warm brown straw picture hat with high upswept slice brim. The hat is simply trimmed with a Petersham ribbon hatband tied in a loose bow at the side.

Máxima wears warm tones so well and this hat’s shape, one we associate closely with her, makes a great statement. The pairing of structured hat with today’s floaty dress is a little unexpected but it really works.
