Baroness Élisabeth-Anne Taubert de Massy passed away on Wednesday. Her funeral will be held next week. Read short articles about her in Point de Vue and Monaco Daily News.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit shared an adventure trying out ceramics. How many of you have taken up a new (or rediscovered an old) hobby during this time?

So lovely to see Princess Beatrix at the opening of a playground in Baarn on Wednesday.

Also lovely to see Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne, who joined a call to recognize the work of unpaid carers.
We end this week with this charming photo released by Buckingham Palace in honour of the Duke of Edinburgh’s 99th birthday.

Trooping The Colour 2020

Queen Elizabeth marked her official birthday on the quadrangle of Windsor Castle today with a ceremony that saw the Welsh Guards troop their colour.

For this event, the Queen repeated repeated her muted jade straw hat with straight-sided, domed top crown and short cartwheel brim, trimmed with a straw twist studded with silk flowers and leaves.

It’s a hat we’re all familiar with and can easily admire- the mixture of textures between the hat and silk cloque coat combine so well and the ensemble’s lovely colour stands out well amidst uniforms and castle stone. We last saw this hat seven months ago at the opening of Parliament and I can’t help wonder if Her Majesty’s choice to wear it again today was partly based in fostering a larger sense of continuity and calm during what has been a difficult time. Or maybe she just felt like wearing green today.

It’s certainly wonderful to see the Queen again and I know you all join me in celebrating her 94th birthday. Enjoy the full ceremony.

Duchess of Cambridge’s Trooping The Colour Hats

Tomorrow’s Trooping the Colour will be a scaled-back event at Windsor Castle with just the Queen in attendance. As we remember the pomp and pageantry of Trooping The Colours past (and future!), here’s a look back at all the hats we’ve seen the Duchess of Cambridge wear to this event:

Pale yellow Philip Treacy waved disc with silk flowers and twists in 2019

While it’s not the most vibrant group of hats we’ve seen (especially after this week’s discussion question!), I’m impressively surprised by the diverse variety of shapes. I think there’s a misconception floating around that Kate mostly wears smaller percher designs, something we see here is not the case.

What do you notice about this group of the Duchess’ hats?

Most Colours?

I was so inspired yesterday by the beautiful rainbow hats designed and donated for the Royal Ascot Charity Auction, this week’s discussion just had to be, dearest readers: which royal hat (or royal hat and clothing combination) is most colourful? Each hat or hatted ensemble you post MUST have at least 4 distinct colours!

Bring on the rainbows!

Note About Royal Ascot 2020

As you all know, Royal Ascot is going to look a lot different this year than in years past. Don’t worry- despite no spectators at the races this year, we are still going to have much hat-related fun! Each day, Royal Hats will feature a retrospective of past Ascot hats worn by a royal woman whose millinery style has enthralled us at this event.

The Ascot Racecourse also invites all of us to join in the races in a unique way:

Each day of the races, a midday post will go up here on the blog to share any of the ‘home’ Ascot hats that caught your eye. Share your at home Ascot look or follow others at #royalascot or #styledwiththanks on Instagram and please, tune in here each day to discuss your favourite hats.

Royal Ascot and the British Hat Guild, led by legendary milliner Stephen Jonees have collaborated on a campaign to celebrate milliner and raise funds for four British  frontline charities: The National Emergencies Trust Relief Fund, NHS Charities Together, The Care Workers Charity and the Berkshire Community Foundation. British milliners were invited to create based on a rainbow, which will be auctioned throughout Royal Ascot week. Make sure to check out all of these brilliantly beautiful hats here– my favourites by Jess Collett, Lisa Tan, Juliette Botterill and Ian Bennett are below.

To kick off next week’s Ascot retrospectives, on Friday and and next Monday we’ll dive into the closets of two more royal women for a look at the hats they have worn to Trooping the Colour and The Order of The Garter. Stay tuned!
