This Week’s Extras

Princess Hisako in a sharp black brimmed hat with pleated teal silk hatband, flowers and beaded triangle (a repeat of her pointed collar, I believe) for the Japanese Orchid & Flower show on Wednesday.

Princess Beatrice spotted on Wednesday in a burgundy velvet padded headband by Isabel Manns

King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia kicked off the first of 21 visits celebrating the King’s Golden Jubilee this year yesterday to Södermanland County. Queen Silvia wore a cozy faux fur brimmed hat while King Carl Gustav wore a sharp black felt fedora.

This new millinery design caught my eye this week (see the comments for more):

The combination of flora of the four nations of the UK – the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Northern Ireland –  to form the shape of St Edward’s Crown on the official coronation logo released yesterday is so fittingly beautiful.

Dutch Royals Visit St. Maarten

King Willem Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Amalia continued their tour of the Caribbean yesterday, arriving on the island of St. Maarten. For their arrival, Queen Máxima repeated a blush silk floral bandeau headpiece.

These face framing headpieces work so well on royal tours (especially ones in tropical climates), elevating the overall ensemble without obstructing view of the esteemed royal guest. I know many of you prefer headpieces that contrast with the wearer’s hair colour but sometimes, a more subtle statement is needed. I’m here for both!

Dutch Royals Visit Curacao

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Amalia continued their Caribbean tour, moving Thursday to the island of Curacao.

Thursday, Queen Máxima repeated an open-crowned headpiece covered in an ecru textured natural fiber (presumably cotton or linen) trimmed with stacked bows on one side.

It’s a bit clunky in execution, the bows lacking crisp finesse and the ringed shape sitting, from some angles, a little awkwardly on Máxima’s head.

Princess Amalia wore her second working royal hat! In white crushable flexibraid material, the design follows a traditional fedora shape and is trimmed with a navy ribbon hatband with small side bow. She wears it really well.
