Ascot Day 5: Wrap Up
I’ve waited all day for photos of today’s carriage procession to be released… no luck so far. If they become available, I’ll update this post! The only other noble head I spotted in a hat was Lady Alice Manners in a dramatic black straw wide brimmed bergère hat.
British milliner Edwina Ibbotson in an aqua straw saucer with wrapping vine trim of her own design
Valerie Stark’s dramatic black Yves Saint Laurent upswept disc hat paired with a yellow dress
Felicity Kendal’s grey straw Jane Taylor hat trimmed in feathers & a net veil (see the back here)
Hermione Norris’ sleek cream Jane Taylor saucer with twisted bow detail
Shelby Tribble’s wide white straw upswept saucer by Sophie Hunter with lavish floral trim
Lizzie Hughes in Justine Bradley-Hill’s graphic black percher with birdcage veil and oversize flower trim
Lisa Gregg’s oversize blue saucer by Merve Bayindir with crin edge and delicate floral trim
Kelly Brook’s Philip Treacy percher hat with burgundy velvet base, silk flowers and birdcage veil
ITV’s Charlotte Hawkins in a cream straw Edwina Ibbotson design with mesh disk brim, bows and peach roses
Australian milliner Felicity Northeast in her own striking headpiece of concentric blue sinamay circles
Ascot Day 4: Chatto Family
Lady Sarah Chatto was at the races today along with her son, Arthur, and nephew, Charles, Viscount Linley. Lady Sarah repeated her cream straw saucer hat, pairing it with a characteristically classic and elegant cream pleated skirt, shell blouse and cardigan. Arthur and Charles looked very dapper in their black top hats.

Ascot Day 5: Peter & Autumn Phillips
Peter and Autumn Phillips attended the final day of racing today as well. Autumn stood out in the crowd in a bright pink dress and hat. With a teardrop shaped straw base, the design features a circular straw ruffle centered with a silk flower. A curling ostrich quill completes the design.

The first time we saw Autumn in this hat, it was worn with a green dress- a combination met with widespread approval. Today’s pairing with this pink frock ups the graphic impact of the ensemble- perhaps not something to do at the all-family royal events Autumn usually attends but that works really well for Ascot. Combining a bright hat and dress can be tricky but this ensemble is beautifully balanced with a neutral purse and shoes and minimal jewelry, which allows the hat’s statement to stand. I think it’s a great look for her.

Ascot Day 5: Queen Elizabeth
Queen Elizabeth attended the fifth and final day of Royal Ascot today in her fifth new hat, one I think might be the most interesting and unique design we’ve seen on her in a long time. Made of gray, white and green snakeskin printed straw, the design follows simple lines with a flat brim and upturned kettle brim that raises diagonally to form a short upsweep on one side. The hat is trimmed with a pouf of green and white ombre feathers tucked behind the front right side of the upturned brim.

I broke out in a great smile when I saw this hat, simply because it’s different than what we usually see on the Queen. I can’t think offhand of another printed straw hat in her wardrobe and its uniqueness is supported by its attractiveness. Is it the most exciting shape? No. Does it coordinate well with her bubble printed suit? I’m not convinced the slightly different shades of green on both pieces work together. But do I love the hat amidst these issues? YES! It’s such a departure for Her Majesty, I can’t help but embrace it.
