Ascot 2022 Day 3: The Princess Royal & Timothy Laurence

Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence attended the third day of racing at Ascot Racecourse today. The Princess Royal repeated her oyster sinamay hat with shallow crown and sidesweeping brim trimmed with cream feathers and apricot and cream curling quills.

I’ve previously described this hat as a great design with excellent proportions of  scale, shape, and such well balanced trim… and it’s true! I just wish Anne would go to milliner Amy Morris-Adams for all of her hats.

Ascot 2022 Day 3: Countess of Wessex

It’s Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot! We start coverage of today’s royal hats at the races with the Countess of Wessex who wore a blush sinamay statement waved saucer trimmed with ombre dyed pleated crin.

There’s a lovely airiness to the design and such wonderful movement from the shape. My only quibble is wondering of the crin binding might have worked better around the full perimeter of the hat instead of just around the top as an anchor for the pleated trim?

Ascot 2022 Day 2: Kent Family

Princess Alexandra was included in today’s carriage procession at Royal Ascot. She repeated a hat in pale wheat hued sinamay, the brimmed design is overlaid in windowpane sinamay that gives a subtle lattice pattern to the piece. It is trimmed with a layered hatband, vibrant green sinamay flower and bows in the two colours. The green flower and bows is a new addition today.

Princess Alexandra’s granddaughter, Flora Vesterberg, wore an ivory button percher trimmed with a silk rose and swath of ivory net veil. Her husband, Timothy Versterberg, wore a black top hat.

Ascot 2022 Day 2: Lady Sarah Chatto & Duchess of Gloucester

Lady Sarah Chatto attended Royal Ascot today, repeating her ecru textured straw hat with rounded, Garbo style crown and extended brim. It’s such a classic hat that Sarah always wears well.

The Duchess of Gloucester attended again today in a navy sinamay hat that looks to be trimmed with navy leather leaves. Unfortunately, the brim binding on this design is starting to come unattached, leaving visible wobbles and bumps around it.
