Hat From the Past
63 years ago to this day in 1960 when Princess Grace of Monaco wore a delicate floral calot headpiece to award the winner of the Monaco Grand Prix.
I am taking some time for travel and study over the next few weeks, before celebrating 10 years of covering Royal Ascot here by attending the first three days of the races, in person! If there are any royal hats worn today or tomorrow, please share them in the comments here.

April 22: Princess Benedikte repeated her sky blue felt hat with pinched fedora crown and sharply upfolded brim on one side.
April 28: Empress Masako wore a short brimmed cream silk covered hat for the Midori Prize Ceremony.
April 30: King Carl Gustaf and Prince Carl Philip in uniform caps at the king’s birthday celebrations
April 30: Crown Princess Mary in a new plaited bandeau by Tasmaian milliner Haidee Neall for the 75th anniversary of the ordination of women to the priesthood in Denmark.
May 2: Queen Margrethe repeated a red felt cloche to officially board the royal yacht Dannebrog and kick off this year’s sailing season
May 4: Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko departed Japan to travel to London for the coronation, Princess Kiko wore a blue hat that’s recently undergone a design change.
May 9: Queen Máxima repeated a blush silk abaca calot headpiece studded with tiny beads on the first day of a visit to Wadden Islands.

May Garden Parties
We have four garden parties, three in London and one in Ireland, to review!
The first one on May 9, 2023 at Buckingham Palace was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The Prince of Wales wore his black antique silk top hat.

Also on May 24, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a garden party at Hillsborough Castle while on their visit to Northern Ireland. Queen Camilla repeated a cream straw with hat angular crown and gently sidesweeping brim. This design is simply trimmed with a monochrome cream silk padded hatband.
