September 10: Princess Beatrice in an embellished headband to admire flowers and tributes left outside Balmoral Castle.

September 11:  Princess Anne wore a repeated black beret with net veil overlay and feather trim by Amy Morris-Adams for the arrival of the Queen’s coffin at Holyrood House in Edinburgh from Balmoral

September 12: The King, The Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence and the Earl of Wessex were in military uniform for the procession of The Queen’s coffin from the Palace of Holyroodhouse along the Royal Mile to St Giles’ Cathedral.

September 14: King Charles, The Prince of Wales, The Princess Royal, the Earl of Wessex, the Duke of Gloucester  and Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence wore military uniform to follow the Queen’s coffin from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster. They were joined by the Duke of Sussex, Earl of Snowdon, Peter Philips, Duke of York and members of Queen Elizabeth’s staff.

Royal Windsor Horse Show 2022

The four-day Royal Windsor Horse Show took place over the weekend. Lady Louise Windsor drove the carriage formerly belonging to her late grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, in Friday night’s  “A Gallop Through History” Platinum Jubilee celebration” and took part yesterday in the ‘Champagne Laurent-Perrier Meet of The British Driving Society,’ wearing in her loden green felt driving hat for both events. This lovely take on a top hat features an upturned brim on one side balanced by an exuberant spray of swirled striped pheasant and chocolate-burgundy biot feathers on the other side, finished with wide green silk hatband overlaid on the bottom with slim, scrolled green braid.

I adore how the quirky brim shape and exuberant feathers giving an appropriately youthful lift to the design. It’s a great hat for Louise.

The scale seems to overwhelm Sophie a little, although the colour and luxe texture of the velvet is wonderful.

British Royals Attend Easter Sunday Service

Members of the British royal family gathered at Windsor Castle yesterday to attend Easter Sunday service at St. George’s Chapel.

The Duchess of Cambridge repeated a denim blue crepe pleated bandeau circle headpiece. The design is ruched around the back with waved bow tails. The pleated texture of the bandeau works so well in contrast with the smooth lines of the coat dress, as do the different shades of blue paired in the same ensemble.

Members of the British royal family and guests from various European royal houses gathered today at Westminster Abbey in London for a Service of Thanksgiving celebrating the life of the Duke of Einburgh.

Queen Elizabeth wore a coat and hat in deep forest green textured silk cloque fabric trimmed with claret velvet. The hat features a flat crown and upturned brim edged in the velvet, which is echoed on a cluster of leaves that trim the design on one side.

British Royals Attend Christmas Day Services

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Wessex family and Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended this morning’s service at St. George’s Chapel. For this occasion, the Duchess of Cornwall wore a new hat. The deep turquoise felt beret is trimmed with diamond-trimmed peacock feathers anchored with a quartet of turquoise felt layered squares.

The colour is fantastic on Camilla as is the feather trim, its sweeping scale giving the hat greater presence. Many of wished for more vibrant additions to her millinery wardrobe and while I welcome this one, I’m less certain about her turquoise and denim blue patchwork coat.

The Countess of Wessex was also in a new hat. Her domed pillbox, in tan and chocolate cheetah printed felt, is simply trimmed with flat bow around the back.

The Duchess of Gloucester was also in a pale felt beret, this one trimmed with a classic French stem. The ecru blocked design has a lovely drape to the side with just the right amount of ‘slouch’ while still looking elegantly refined.

Over in Norfolk, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Christmas morning service at the church of St. Mary Magdalene. Kate wore a new deep chocolate felt fedora with wide brim. The hat is trimmed with a quadruple layered hatband of overlapping feathers and a small metal bird on the side. It’s such a chic hat for Kate; I particularly like the fantastic feather hatband, which gives such great texture and contrast.
