Favourite Royal Hats of 2018: New Designs

And then there were eleven.

Eleven beautiful hats, from the studios of eight different milliners, that made first appearances in 2011 (on eight different royal heads!). In felt, fabric and straw, the shapes range from cloche to saucer to percher to wide-brimmed picture with stunning adornments that include silk abacca loops, handmade silk flowers, curved quills, veils, feathers and a branch of cherry blossoms.

Favourite Royal Hats of 2018: The Repeats

After slowly narrowing down our favourite repeated royal hats over the past year, it’s now down to ten. Ten unique designs, made by six different milliners and worn on six different royal heads. There are perchers, gently sideswept brims, a saucer, picture hats and two dramatic upsweeps trimmed with an array of silk flowers, quills, ruffles, twists and feathers.

Favourite New Royal Hat: November & December 2018

We have come to the last of 2018’s semi final polls, this time focusing on new hats that made their debut over the past two months. November and December saw a number of lovely new hats,, eleven of which were met with particular praise. We return to this jewel-toned group, which includes fedora, pillbox, bumper, percher, toque, pyramid, bandeau and face-hugger shapes, to choose a favourite. The winner of this poll will join 2018’s other semi-finalists in a final face-off for Readers’ Favourite New Royal Hat of 2018.

Favourite Repeated Royal Hat: November & December 2018

We have one more set of semi-final polls before we choose our favourite hats of 2018! Let’s get to it.

During the months of November and December, there were ten hats – interestingly, all brimmed designs – which received considerable admiration. We’re going to take a second look at these wintry designs and choose our top pick. This winner will then compete against all the other hats we have short-listed over the past year for Favourite Repeated Royal Hat of 2018.

Numerous foreign visits and a major royal wedding brought us an unusual number of new hats this fall, many of which were greatly admired. We’re going to look back at these beauties and choose one to be put forward in our countdown to your Favourite New Royal Hat of 2018.
