The following new millinery designs caught my eye this week (see the comments for more):

Immense congratulations to the Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg on the announcement that they are expecting a second child in April. The announcement was preceded with the release of lovely snaps of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa with their three youngest grandchildren.

An extremely concerning announcement came from the House of Oranje this week about Princess Amalia’s safety. Royal Blogger Netty Liestra is mobilizing support for the princess- read how you can join in here.

And finally, a lovely shot of Queen Camilla with some of the hundreds of Paddington Bears given in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, which will be distributed to children through Bernardo’s charity.

On September 29th, Princess Beatrice stepped out in a green velvet knotted bandeau by Jennifer Behr. It’s such a gorgeous colour on her.

On Sunday, October 2, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended church at Crathie Kirk in Scotland. Camilla repeated a red felt beret with pheasant feather trim.

Crown Princess Victoria wore a headpiece of folded cockades in pale pink satin. For several years, Victoria has tended to choose more fascinators and smaller headpieces than hats and these cockade designs, with their beautiful detail, are such great pieces for her.

Catching Up… The Belgian Royals

On September 3, 2022, the Belgian Royal family attended the wedding of Queen Mathilde’s brother Charles-Henri d’Udekem d’Acoz and Caroline Philippe in Pont-L’Evêque, France. Queen Mathilde wore a sinamay figure-eight  headpiece trimmed with silk flowers in the same vibrant jade as her silk crepe dress. I’m not usually a fan of monochrome looks but the openness of this headpiece works well, particularly with such an airy dress. It’s really pretty.

Princess Elisabeth repeated a bandeau headpiece in draped blush pink abaca.

On October 2, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth attended the Blue Berets parade of first-year students of the Royal Military Academy, one of whom was Prince Gabriel.

Queen Mathilde repeated a casque headpiece of overlapping rusty-red felt leaves.

The hat is daring on its own but suffers here against the bow on the blouse, the cartoonish trouser buckle and a colour scheme that shouts ketchup and mustard. This look isn’t a successful one for me.

On October 5, the king and queen embarked on a working visit to Germany. For the first day of this visit, Queen Mathilde wore a padded halo bandeau headpiece covered in the same red blocked print as her dress.

The placement of the print on both the headpiece and dress is very well done and, along with the smaller scale of the headpiece, avoids an overkill of print in the overall ensemble. It’s such a great look for Mathilde.

For the second day of the visit, Queen Mathilde repeated her biscuit velvet felt fedora with extended brim and multi-looped bow.
